Pixel Perfect Baking

Confection Perfection. Bringing video game and anime food to life.

Every year, Guild Wars 2 has the dragon bash festival filled with holographic dragons and interesting consumable items.  This is one of the items that I always thought would be a fun, easy recipe to make but, it ended up being a bit more difficult than anticipated.  I wanted to use fruit to mimic the colors of the in game art but encountered issues preparing it like a typical sushi roll; the fruit was harder to cut through and the fruit roll-up was more inclined to pinch together than cut nicely and if I froze it then the fruit roll-up  became brittle and shattered.

I ended up having to use a mold for the rice and fruit to have enough stability to cut through then using those lines as a guide for cutting strips of the fruit roll-up, which is how the recipe is written.

Ingredients

  • 1 c sushi rice cooked
  • 1 tbsp coconut cream
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 strawberries sliced into matchsticks
  • 1 pear sliced into matchsticks
  • 2 green fruit roll-ups

Instructions

  • In a small microwaveable bowl, combine the coconut cream and honey. Microwave until the mixture becomes smooth, about 1 minute.
  • Add the coconut cream and honey mixture to the rice and mix until evenly combined.
  • Into a small cylindrical mold, place a think layer of the rice. Add 2-3 matchstick sized strawberry and pear slices. Layer more rice on top of the fruit and compress until firm.
  • While molded, slice into 4 even sections.
  • Unroll one of the fruit roll-ups and place the molded sushi on top. With the sections as a guide cut the fruit roll-up into strips and roll to cover outside of sushi.

About Me

I am an avid gamer with a love for food and especially desserts.

Anime was the driving force behind recreating these foods in real life; the art made everything look delicious.

So, I tried my hand at making some of the foods I saw and then further delved into food from video games.

While not all go according to plan, I still love making food from games and hope to share them with everyone!
